Who we are

The campaign to give Nationwide Members a Say on the Purchase of Virgin Money (the “Objective”). This could include, but is not limited to, the following, operating under Nationwide Building Society (“Nationwide”) memorandum and rules:

  • requesting a Special General Meeting (“SGM”) of Nationwide,
  • organising petitions, proposing resolutions or directors
  • calling for or organising a member vote

What data is collected and how

The campaign collects personal data submitted via

  • The website Change.org if you are a signatory to a petition 
  • The website Nationwide-Virgin-Money-Member-Vote.org.uk if you comment or subscribe
  • Email if you send an email to the campaign
  • Facebook if you participate in the dedicated group for the campaign.

Why your data is being collected

The data collected by the campaign is to support the campaign’s Objective, including some personal data: names, email address, postal address (optional) and phone number (optional). If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. This data is collected to help achieve the campaign’s Objective, including keeping you informed of progress, and in case further action is required to achieve the campaign’s Objective. This is managed by email and this website.

How your data will be used

Your data will be used for the sole purpose of supporting the campaign’s Objective. Your data may be shared with Nationwide and their agents for this purpose. Your data may be used to contact you to update you on progress and to request any further information for this purpose.  Your data will not be shared with any other third parties or for any other purpose.

How long your data will be kept

Your data will be retained for the sole purpose of the campaign’s Objective and updating you on progress. Your data will be deleted when the campaign closes down.

If you leave a comment on this website, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

How your data is kept secure

Your personal data will be kept private by the campaign and will not be made public.  It may be shared with Nationwide for the sole purpose of achieving the campaign’s Objective.  It will be deleted after one year.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

You have the right to access, view, edit and delete your data. To do this, or for any other questions, please email NWVMvote@gmail.com from your email address.

Comments

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
